Finding beauty in obvious places

体育祭

Saturday was a kind of sports day at my school. It rained, so all my photos are from the first 5 minutes of the day.

Another Short Term Goal Accomplished

Occupational Hazard

Well, you get what you ask for, to some extent. This is Satoko, Mark. If you don't like it, you should have seen the other attempts.

How many times have I drawn this picture now? Can you plagarise yourself?

Petty Theft

I had a really good day yesterday, so I'm balancing my karma with a pre-emptive, ad hominem attack.

Happy Mother's Day

Only four days late.

I quite happy with the colouring style I've used recently, and yet, all I can think about is the mouth in the last picture. Something is wrong.

Can I get in trouble for this?

I think it was better in black and white. Is she recognizable?

I had a lot of free time at work today. I'm starting to like junior high.

Not a self-portrait

I've had a good week. I guess that means it's time for a zombie. Dubious artistic merit, but I like glowy things.

Sorry, Mark. It looks nothing like you. Not saying it looks better, or worse, just nothing like you.

The final Taikai

For the kids I taught at Shonan, today was their final tournament.

Gaku did pretty well in a losing effort, considering his foot was held together with tape. Japanese sports medicine.

Ryuichi got thumped, but was photogenic.

Hiromitsu got thumped.

Ryou went to the second round. He's actually an amazing player to watch.

More of the end

I don't really know this guys name. They call him Pigeru because of his hair. He went to the second round.

The guy who beat him is from my other old school.

つかれた。

Some miscellaneous notes. This guy's amazing. He played doubles and singles. He also refuses to accept our human conventions about hair.

This guy would turn his head to the left every time he swung. What's he looking at? I'm glad he lost, and I don't even know him.

Errata

The side entertainment. We played a game where you slap the other person's arm, then they slap yours, and you repeat that until someone gives up. She won, but I held in for about 20 minutes. There's some bruising on my arm.

The reason you say "チーズ" before taking a picture.

The worse version, but all eyes open.

This year I'll be getting an air conditioner

Summer is here. I've started sweating enough that I should be down to fighting weight in no time.

Speed drawing has been a remarkable failure thus far, but, I have nothing but time after work. I may get better at them.

The pinnacle, the end

Even with the amount of girlfriend-free free time I have, I doubt I can pull something of this quality off again. It was fun while it lasted.

The last week has been one of my busiest and most social in Japan. Strange, under the circumstances.

Reading

"Perhaps there is even an order of rank with respect to those burnt children, the born artists who find enjoyment of life only in trying to falsify it's image (as if taking wearisome revenge on it); one might guess to which degree life has disgusted them, by the extent to which they wish to see its image falsified, attenuated, ultrified, and diefied..." Beyond Good and Evil

I always enjoyed pretending to understand philosophy, especially Nietzche, but I've never been able to grasp this idea.
