The final Taikai
For the kids I taught at Shonan, today was their final tournament.
Gaku did pretty well in a losing effort, considering his foot was held together with tape. Japanese sports medicine.
Ryuichi got thumped, but was photogenic.
Hiromitsu got thumped.
Ryou went to the second round. He's actually an amazing player to watch.
More of the end
I don't really know this guys name. They call him Pigeru because of his hair. He went to the second round.
The guy who beat him is from my other old school.
つかれた。
Some miscellaneous notes. This guy's amazing. He played doubles and singles. He also refuses to accept our human conventions about hair.
This guy would turn his head to the left every time he swung. What's he looking at? I'm glad he lost, and I don't even know him.
Errata
The side entertainment. We played a game where you slap the other person's arm, then they slap yours, and you repeat that until someone gives up. She won, but I held in for about 20 minutes. There's some bruising on my arm.
The reason you say "チーズ" before taking a picture.
The worse version, but all eyes open.

Reading
"Perhaps there is even an order of rank with respect to those burnt children, the born artists who find enjoyment of life only in trying to falsify it's image (as if taking wearisome revenge on it); one might guess to which degree life has disgusted them, by the extent to which they wish to see its image falsified, attenuated, ultrified, and diefied..." Beyond Good and Evil
I always enjoyed pretending to understand philosophy, especially Nietzche, but I've never been able to grasp this idea.
