The two girls, who advanced from the city speech tournament to the regional, gave their speeches today. They worked really hard, and their speeches went much better than I expected. I'm quite proud of them both. Kaori, on the left, came in 3rd place in the original speech competition. One short of advancing. Naomi didn't place, but her speech was near perfect.

As a side note, people complain about the level of English in Japan. When a group of people unqualified to speak or evaluate English ability are assembled as a group of judges...well, at least these girls, and the other kids at the competition today, will be the future of Japan.
A second side note. In the artificial intelligence class I attended, the teacher reminded us that any artificial intelligence that's right 50% of the time is useless. You'd be better off flipping a coin. My recommendation for next year's tournament.
